Every other Tuesday during lunch, The Divine Femininity Club meets to help students learn how to express themselves.
“I just wanted to provide a sanctity of non judgment and ability for us, the upperclassmen, to share our found advice,” said President Merah Bleibel, a senior in SAS. “We’ve had to learn the hard way, so maybe they don’t have to.”
Merah said that the club focuses on making a space for students who need support in new aspects of life.
“I think [the Divine Femininity] can unite students by letting them know that not everyone has it figured out and that these kinds of things are a journey and they take time to learn.”
Something the club also covers is cosmetology and skin care and how students can navigate feeling inexperienced with the products and routine.
“While it may seem like the girl with the full beat who’s in ninth grade has the skills [you don’t], in reality there are differences in how she grew up or maybe the things she was exposed to and most of us had to learn through wearing make-up that didn’t suit us very well,” Merah explained.
Another purpose of The Divine Femininity is cultivating inclusivity and individuality among students at Hami.
“Our club isn’t subject to only women,” Merah said. “It can really be anybody who’s interested in learning about how to express themselves and I think that’s really important, especially in a school this big.”
