Hami’s girls’ JV volleyball team lost to Uni Monday at home, as they struggled to communicate efficiently but kept up their determination.
The beginning of Hamilton’s volleyball team the game started off strong, with Hami in the lead and all the players engaged and having good communication with each other. After the first rest period, though, the girls started to fall behind.
Eliana Becerra, a freshman starter in volleyball, said that she knows the team will be able to improve their communication in the future.
“My team are very understanding people, if we just talk with each other, we’re all really good friends, so it would probably work out,” Eliana said.
Half way through the match, Uni was beating Hami by 14 points on their first set. Even though Hami was losing, they still didn’t lose hope and they stayed determined.
Throughout the game, the teams went back and forth, keeping a close score with many defensive plays.
At the end of all 5 sets, Uni ended up defeating Hami by only 3 points, 20-23 in the final set..
Volleyball coach Ms Gaston said for students looking to get involved with volleyball, she recommends they watch volleyball games to get a better understanding of what is happening.
“Definitely watch games, so you can understand the game better and then work on conditioning,” Ms. Gaston said. “Passing is key, get really good at passing.”
