With many Hamilton traditions coming up for the holiday season, the Winter Door Decorating contest, which was hosted by ASB, brought excitement to many teachers and students who got to be involved in the process. The event presented teachers and students with the opportunity to transform their doors into unique designs for the winter season.
The contest kicked off on November 15th and ran until December 2nd where people were allowed to transform different doors, bringing varieties of creativity and themes to the contest every year. Most of the campus participated in the annual event, which made it all the more competitive.
Ms. Lowe, a chemistry teacher in BIT, explained how her students put a lot of effort into executing the ideal door that was pridefully driven by their own passion. She said that the most she did for the event was supplying paper and letters for the door.
“Honestly this was mostly their brainchild,” she said. “They came up with the idea and executed it how they wanted it.”
Spanish teacher Ms. Morales said that her door, a Garfield themed one, was thanks to the efforts of her students as well.
“My period four worked on everything,” she said. “It took them maybe a week [to finish].”
Ms. Lowe said that her students similarly took a good chunk of the week to flesh out their ideas for the door.
“They were working on the door for probably three or four days,” said Ms. Lowe.
This event was a way for staff and administrators to encourage more students to engage in brainstorming and creativity during school that wasn’t academically related.
Simone Ferris, a junior in AMPA, said she was satisfied with how well the event went.
“Everyone finished on time and they turned out really good,” Simone said.
She emphasized how she thought it was one of the most successful years because of the amount of people who participated and the hard work that everyone contributed to make it exciting.
Voting officially opened on December 4th for students to vote for their favorite doors and the top 3 classes would be rewarded with donuts during finals week.
After days of anticipation, Ms. Axelrad, a government teacher, won first place with her door nicknamed the “Winter is a Galaxy Far Far Away” and was awarded donuts and bragging rights for her seventh period. The runners up were Ms. Malina, a history teacher, and Ms Morales. Both teachers received an honorable mention on the school announcements the morning of December 5th.
