At Hamilton High School, the athletic department found it’s new athletic director in Hamilton’s own Mr. Turner. With this new role, Mr. Turner strives to improve the athletic department of Hamitlon, not only in the events themselves, but for the students.
Mr. Turner said that for him, being able to manage the athletic program is not just a job but a “dream come true”.
“I’ve always loved sports,” said Mr. Turner. “It’s been a passion of mine since I was a child. Keeping track of athletics and being involved in sports has always been something I’ve enjoyed.”
What Mr. Turner wants to set him apart in his directing is his commitment to the athletes at Hamilton High. Before becoming the Athletic Director, he spent many years as a coach for the students. It has given him a unique perspective on what it takes to help young athletes grow not just in sports, but in life.
“My background as a coach has shaped how I approach this role,” he said. “I understand what it’s like to be on the sidelines, pushing athletes to their full potential. That’s what drives me to make our program exceed expectations.”
Under his leadership, Hamilton High’s athletic department has continued to improve, offering students not only competitive sport programs but also support to help them reach their academic goals. Mr. Turner is working on setting a bright future for athletes at Hamilton under his programs.
Staff have also supported Mr. Turner’s new promotion, including Mr. Campbell, a BSAP counselor. He said that he was supportive of the decision and was pleased to know that Mr. Turner would be involved as a director.
“When I heard Mr. Turner was taking over, I was excited,” said Mr. Campbell. “He has been here a long time and I feel he deserved this shot.”
