Isn’t it frustrating how the actions of other people can affect you too, even if they are complete strangers? For me it is. In high school, students utilizing the restrooms for the wrong reasons definitely evokes the emotion of frustration. As their actions result negatively throughout the school.
There have been times where I’ve needed to use the restroom but had to take what felt as though it were a marathon-like walk around campus to find the cleanest available restroom there is. There are approximately 3 available [student] restrooms at Hamilton, and the locations change depending on the condition of the bathroom.
I understand why limited restroom systems are in effect but I believe that it stands as an inconvenience for the students. At breaks, everyone rushes to the nearest available bathroom hoping there’s not a line. Let’s say there is a line, it either motivates you to wait till class starts or walk to another “available” restroom. Hint: they only have 2 other bathrooms to choose from and they’re most likely to have a line as well.
This can and often does result in tardiness when attending classes.
We’ve been made aware, via the assistant principals on the intercom, that students, including myself, are not in agreement with how the restrooms are being run. For example, staff members are posing as watch guards, waiting for someone bold enough to walk in the restroom without a pass.
It’s a hall pass. Not a golden ticket.
Unfortunately, there will always still be those groups of students vaping, ditching, tagging etc, in the restrooms, whether you have all of them open or more than half of them closed.
These actions affect us students, even the students that commit them. For then we all are quite literally left with trashy, vandalized restrooms.
Although I don’t agree with their ways, the school administration is doing the best they can and it’s appreciated. We as students can at least try to be less destructive towards this property, for we all wish to use cleaner restrooms and have a better experience whilst doing so.
