On February 6, the chamber orchestra performed with the AMPA choirs, wind ensemble, advanced guitar, piano program, and the camerata and symphony orchestra to host their annual collaborative concert. The concert consisted of different genres of music and different combinations of groups working together.
The show began with introductions to the pieces the orchestra would be playing from different participating musicians and continued with instruction from Mr. McDonough, Mr. Braun, and Mr. McGaffey with their respective groups.
The stage was lit up in vibrant colors, some shades of pink and bright yellows and oranges. Overall, the show was a strong presentation of the music that Hamilton’s performing arts classes can offer.
The one hour concert ended with a slow but powerful duet from Mical Cohen and Ethan Kuwata who sang the song Falling Slowly from the movie Once.
After the bright ending, performers walked around the auditorium, receiving gifts from family and talking to friends and supportive parents.
Leo O’Neal, a senior in AMPA and a singer for the choir, said that he really enjoyed participating in the concert. He said that performing with so many groups in the performing arts program was new, but welcome.
“Honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be,” said Leo. “I’m not used to singing with an orchestra, but I knew the music, so I could come in at any point well enough.”
Vin Searcy is a senior in AMPA who attended the show and is a part of a different choir of Mr. Braun’s, Bella Voce. He said that he thoroughly enjoyed the show and thought it was really fun to see his fellow choir friends perform.
“I had a great time at the concert and saw a lot of my friends perform.” he said. “I like supporting them at concerts.”
Leo said that he felt good after the choir exited the stage and that he enjoyed the experience.
“It was so much fun,” said Leo. “It’s such a rush performing live.”
