It has been a while since the fires in LA started, but the effects are still rippling throughout the city. It has been very hard on many people.
Some people have lost their homes, jobs, personal items, and many more valuables. This has become a serious matter that most people aren’t taking seriously. Some people are taking it as a joke because the fires did not affect them, so they aren’t putting themselves in the perspective of the victims. People make joking videos or posts about the fire and assume that it’s funny, when in reality, it’s serious.
“The jokes don’t really bother me because sometimes we need to see the situation in a different way,” said Elena Espinoza, a senior in BITA. “But there is a place and time to make jokes.”
It can be hard for people who have lost their loved ones or homes to see the jokes that are being made about the situation.
I personally know someone who was affected by the fires. She was at work in the hills when the fire started. She had to rush home because of how severe things were getting. She was breathing in all the ashes, which caused her to have problems breathing.
She was out of work for two weeks.
I see a lot of new things everyday in the media. Many people have different theories on how the fires started. Some say it could have been kids playing around and some say it could be “The Rapture”. I’ve also seen that some people think the fire could have started on purpose to burn down celebrities’ houses to hide all the bad things that are coming to light.
No one really knows the truth about what caused the fires but all we can do is pray and hope for those affected and take things seriously. The time isn’t right to joke around.
