On March 4, the Hami varsity girls’ basketball team went up against Westview in a home game and went through a devastating loss, ending the score at 42-45; a shocking loss after their win at the CIF Championship Open Division. The Hami girls gave everything they had to win the game and played outstandingly.
#35 Micah Lemons, a senior in BITA and a starting player in the team, said, “I feel great about my first time playing [in the] championship for Hami girls’ basketball, and [I’ve] been preparing mentally by listening to Rio.”
The game began with introducing the players to the crowd to cheer them on. Both teams had an incredible amount of love and support, but Hamilton’s side was at least 10 times louder, chock full of cheer and encouragement. Many students, parents, and staff members were there to give their full support. When referees made questionable calls, the home side booed, and when they made calls in favor of Hami, the home side cheered.
In the first half, the teams went head to head, with the score often tied. In the third quarter, Westview pulled ahead by a few points after receiving many free throws. In the fourth quarter, #2 Jade Fort and #15 Kinidi Curl went on an outstanding attack to nearly even the score. However, Westview’s scoring in the final minutes kept them ahead.
Nicholas Gomez, a senior in SAS who had gone to watch the game, said, “It was a very close and intense game! Hamilton should have won.”
When the game ended, Hami girls took the loss like a champ and walked it off with no negative energy shown. Clearly, since they won the CIF Championship with a ring.
