Internationally, Earth Day is celebrated to raise awareness and support for environmental protection. This global observance brings together individuals, communities, governments, and organizations to take action for the planet.
This day encourages people to reflect on how their actions impact the environment and what steps they can take to make a positive difference.
For example, cleaning up after themselves.
There are an estimated 50 billion pieces of litter on U.S roadways. The organization Keep America Beautiful found that 75% of Americans have admitted to littering in the past—and only 43% of Americans recycle.
A lot of people know littering and not recycling is bad, but it still happens all the time. It shows that even though we’re aware, habits are hard to break—or maybe it’s just not always easy or convenient to do the right thing.
But having a sanitary and safe environment is always convenient, despite the hard efforts to get it that way. We as humans should cherish the environment we are so lucky enough to thrive in. Destroying Earth and all her beauties for temporary pleasures just affects us in the long run.
If you can, please pick up a piece of trash today—because a cleaner world starts with you… and a little less junk.
