Last week, students finally finished state testing. After weeks of preparation and studying, many students say they’re relieved it’s done.
The state testing took place over several days, covering subjects such as math, English, and other subjects. Classes were quieter than usual, and the schedule was a little different to make time for testing.
Students said it was slightly difficult to manage their time and have the space to complete assignments and out of school tasks while still trying to do well on the state testing.
Melanie Pina, a junior in BITA, said she found herself only “Going back and forth from school and work,” making her feel burnt out, and leaving little time for her personal life.
Other students agreed they were tired by the end of the week from testing.
SAS junior Victoria Dmitriava said she was exhausted and “very tired” after a long week of testing left her drained.
Teachers said they were also working hard to make sure everyone was ready. They gave out study guides, practice tests, reviews, and helpful tips for testing.
BITA math teacher Mr. Oh said he tried to make sure his students were prepared for state testing.
“I have them take the FIAB Test as a lot of the questions are going to be in the SBAC,” he said.
Now that testing is done, many students are looking forward to the end of the school year. With summer just around the corner, they are excited to get back to their regular schedule and participate in fun activities.
Some teachers use the time after testing to do projects or more relaxed lessons. Others help students review anything they had struggled with earlier in the year.
Even though state testing is stressful, the tests help show what students have learned, and what they still need help with. However, most students agree that they’re glad it’s finally over.
