April 25 marked the reopening of Hamilton’s football field. The community all joined together to celebrate a newly paved track, new grass on the field, and upgraded bleachers.

LAUSD board member Sherlett Hendy Newbill honored the new space. this project definitely involves the community of the school [and] the legacy,” she said. “I think it’s just a signature to the future.”
Kevin Guiterrez, a sophomore in BIT, had good things to say about the changes. “It looks cleaner,” Kevin said. “The old track used a lot of dirt so it’s a lot cleaner for runner’s shoes and it looks more aesthetically pleasing.”
He shared plans to join the football team next year as he felt more people would come due to the new field.
This satisfaction is shared by BIT Junior Sudana Bhutan. “It looks great. In comparison, it definitely looks better.”
Although the construction was an obstacle to team practices, some athletes said they are glad it occurred when it did.
One of these includes Sudana. “I’m going to say it was good that they started it when they did, because a majority of it was during the school year, so at least now our track people have somewhere to run.”
This was step one of Hamilton’s construction plan, and its success creates high hopes for future renovations. LAUSD superintendent Alberto Carvalho echoed this after delivering his remarks at the ribbon cutting event.
“This is a historic celebration of Hamilton High with a huge investment of $60 million for the benefit of students, for the community,” Mr. Carvalho said. “It’s about honoring the past and investing for the future.”
