As we end the spooky season, AMPA’s fall musical Little Shop of Horrors plans to close it off with a bang. The musical, which centers Seymour Krelborn and his flesh eating plant, will run for 3 nights here at Hamilton High School.
Many changes have been happening around the AMPA department lately, with one of them being a new director! Ms. Jordan Haddad, the new musical theatre director, shares her experience directing the fall musical. “It’s really nice to have a fully supportive team here to bring together a musical,” she said. “So I’m not alone anymore doing it all by myself.”
Ms. Jordan puts a huge emphasis on communication, explaining how much it means to her. “The only way theater comes to life is through collaboration,” she says.

Countless hours have been put in to make sure the show is of the highest quality. “I think one thing new cast members and I have been able to bond over is how big the show really is, and how much it takes to put on,” says AMPA senior Syriah Howard. Syriah, who plays Crystal, is eager for audiences to see the final product. “I’m excited for people to see the work we put in.”
Not only is work happening on the stage, but behind the scenes as well. Between the technical and costume crew, so much attention to detail is accounted for. AMPA senior Darby Hernandez is the head costumer for Little Shop. She compares costuming this show with other ones she’s done with Hamilton. “I have a lot more creative freedom over logos and designs… and more specialty stuff… like the Urchins Dressses,” she says.
Leading man Ben Gonzalez, who plays Seymour Krelborn, gives his hopes for viewers of the show. “The show is going to be great, amazing and a lot of fun,” he says.
