Laufey is an Icelandic-American artist/singer. She started off as someone posting videos on Tik Tok during the pandemic, eventually she became a huge deal with the success of her song “From the start” and eventually she had a bigger fan base than before. Currently she is a very popular artist and released her newest album on August 2, 2025 “A Matter of Time”. The album became quite popular as she had released the lead singles before it came out.
Clockwork: 7/10
Clockwork is a great song to start the album out, its vibe is happy and giddy (a large contrast to some other songs) which welcomes listeners.
Lover girl: 9/10
Released before the album came out Lover girl is a good song, talking about how someone can become a big part of your life and how they can change everything you do to revolve around them or even be thinking about them at any time.
Snow white: 8/10
One of the first sad songs in the album and another one that was released before the actual album, the song relates to people’s own standards to themselves, and how they even look to others and wish that they could be like them instead of themselves.
Caste in Hollywood: 9/10
This song is talking about talking to your younger self and how they are doing better after being in a toxic relationship and finally getting out of it.
Carousel: 8/10
Another song about love, talking about getting into a relationship, how they should hop onto the “Carousel” which is a metaphor for love.
Silver Lining: 9/10
Another song that was released before the album, a great jazzy vibe and even amazing lyrics to listen to. Talking about how no matter what happens they will stick by their partner’s side no matter what.
Too Little, Too Late: 10/10
This song is a real tearjerker. In the point of view of a male, this song is actually a story with the song bewitched and promise (from her previous album Goddess). The main character is talking about how they made the mistake of losing them and how they should be the one that ends up with them. So many edits have been made with this song as well and I have cried to each.
Cuckoo Ballet (interlude): 8/10
A nice little break after that heart breaking song previously, this instrumental track allows a flawless transition from sadness.
Forget-Me-Not: 9/10
Another tearjerker. A great mix of Icelandic along with English and thoughtful lyrics the provoke strong emotions.
Tough Luck: 9.5/10
Another good lyrical song. Not exactly up there with Too Little, Too Late but still a very good song.
A Cautionary Tale: 8/10
A decent song in my opinion. I like the lyrics and everything. I don’t know, it just makes me fall asleep when I listen to it.
Mr. Eclectic: 9/10
Very good uplifting vibes. Again very much jazzy vibes.
Clean Air: 8/10
Reminds me of country songs for some reason. Not the worst song in the album I’ rate it in my top 5
Sabotage: 7/10
The lowest score of the album, and there’s a reason. This song is perfect as a ringtone, as a dozing off song, it isn’t exactly the best. The lyrics are good, but a section in the song completely breaks away from the current sound and almost scares others from its sudden loudness.
Laufey’s new album is a really good album, I had only started listening to her after hearing “From the Start” but from there I listened to all of her albums in one sitting and I enjoy her songs. The heartbreak aspects of some songs are sad but they don’t feel like that because of the upbeat vibes and even the way she has the melody (except for too little, too late I will never recover from that ever)
