As of Jan. 8, Jujutsu Kaisen has returned with a new season. The last time we had an episode was all the way back in 2019. During this time the entirety of the manga was published and completed, and a new manga had started.
Episodes 1 and 2 are not going to be covered as they are in the movie.
Episode 3: Episode 3 is a godsend for us all as it helps all of the viewers understand the important rules of the Culling Games and even explains the plan that Itadori and the others think up. They will try to find some cursed object that allows them to open the seal Gojo is in from the back, until they find out that it is all destroyed and decide to look for a player in the Culling Games known as Angel. Itadori and Fushiguro will go and try to recruit a third year known as Hakari, while Yuta (a second year who could be the same strength level as Satoru Gojo) will start getting points for them to start making new rules in the games, and Maki ( a sorcerer who can’t use any cursed energy) will go back to the Zenin compound to get some cursed tools for them. Meanwhile the villains are using all these resurrected sorcerers and curses to make the Japanese aware of jujutsu so that they can take over Japan and in turn take over the world soon after. I give this episode a 9/10 as the art and storytelling is very good but it seems to pass by so quickly that you’re left wondering if there’s more.
Episode 4: Episode 4 follows the character of Maki Zenin going back to the zenin clan compound to go and get some cursed tools they need, mainly the inverted spear of heaven (which looks more like a sword or dagger but whatever) While on her way to the place where the weapons are, she runs into her mother who begs her not to go in there, the reason why is because Maki’s father wants to kill both her and her sister, and so he almost does, but Maki’s sister gives her life to Maki so that she may live. And from there Maki then has the exact same feeling as another character, Toji Fushiguro, who was a member of the zenin clan who couldn’t use jujutsu but could still fight very well due to the technique he was born with which is called heavenly restriction. Basically, the user loses the ability to use cursed energy but gets superhuman strength in the process.Once Maki murders her father with the spear the rest of the Zenin clan come in and try to murder her, but she slaughters the entire clan. And so the episode ends with Maki leaving the compound. This episode is a 10/10 as this was a very much anticipated scene of mine for the anime and seeing it so beautifully animated was very exciting.
Episode 5: Episode 5 takes place one day before Episode 4, following both Fushiguro and Itadori, they are trying to recruit two ex-jujutsu high sorcerers. Hakari, who is running an illegal underground fight club, and Kirara, another third year whose cursed technique lets them use the stars, are also transitioning from male to female. To get close to both of them they attempt to compete, Fushiguor sadly isn’t chosen and Itadoriis instead the one who has to go undercover to get closer to Hakari. After fighting his upper classman, he is able to try and get closer to Hakari. Sadly, Itadori blows his cover by saying he doesn’t know who Gojo is. This episode is honestly really good and the whole ending scene was rotoscoped (rotoscoping is when you animate over actions that people actually perform, which make it so much more engaging and interesting) 10/10
Episode 6: In this episode, Itadori is talking with Hakari. During that, we have both Panda (a second year at Jujutsu high) and Megumi trying to get as close to Hakari as they can but run into Kirara. Who has the cursed technique that allows her to assign each person a star, where each person must pass through the stars in order to be able to reach the farthest star, in this case that would be the door. After finding out that each of them was marked with a star, they are able to pass through all of them and finally make their way to the door. But at the same time Hakari and Itadori come out, Itadori is taking all the punches Hakari is throwing at him, in order to prove to him that he is worthy of his help. Eventually Kirara cools him down and Hakari agrees. The Game master then appears and informs Itadori (who is registered as a player already) that a player has added a new rule to the Culling Games. We then cut to the character known as Hajime Kashimo. A reincarnated sorcerer with the sole purpose of fighting Ryomen Sukuna. This episode is a real good one, but not an absolute perfect one like the previous one so it gets a 9/10
Episode 7: Following Itadori taking all the punches Hakari threw, they fill in Hakari and Kirara on the situation, during this Hakari gets mad at Megumi at which point he says he is the head of the Zenin clan, and Hakari agrees (They then proceed to mention the following day that Maki slaughtered the clan) From here Fushiguro and Itadori go to a colony in order to officially start participating in the Culling Games. Itadori then fights and defeats 2 random people he meets as he enters the colony. Meanwhile Megumi is stuck protecting a girl who is looking for a “knight” Also during this time they are looking for another player known as Hiromi Higuruma. At the end of the episode, we see that both Itadori and Fushiguro are told the player is in different sections. The entirety of this episode being in two different point of views is really nice, it gets a 9/10. The reason why this episode gets a 9/10 as the storytelling is very good but the ending is such a cliffhanger (not to mention the week wait).
