Club Rush is the most highly awaited event of the year. Club cabinet members work tirelessly to make their clubs come to life, offering a variety of different options for students to chose from. It’s a fun event to make new friends, open yourself up to new opportunities and be a part of a community. The event can also build up your skillset, promoting leadership, communication and even organization skills.

For example, Musawwer Khan, a senior in SAS is a part of the Student Life club. With this club comes helping others. “Anyone can join and make a change for the school” he says. “Next week we’re actually doing homeless food packages … we’re just [doing] community service for the school.” He feels that making an impact shouldn’t be difficult, and that everyone should be able to contribute to supporting others easily. “I wanted everyone to have access to the resources we have and I want everyone to make a change with communities around us,” he said.
Amari Johnson, a junior in AMPA feels the need for change as well. She is a part of the Black Woman Association club. She made this club to help boost young women of color and inspire them to take action. “My goal is to uplift women of color in this community with this club through leadership, community events, and also socializing because we are stronger together,” Amari said. Through this club, she’s hoping to change how women of color are being portrayed. “ I didn’t like how we were being represented so I feel like with this we can not only change the narrative but help create a new generation of black female leaders,” she said.
Joining clubs like these can bring a sense of belonging. Harlem DeAngelis, a junior in AMPA said that the variety of what the club has to offer makes him want to join. He says, “I just like how much diversity each club has as well as how every club manages themselves.”
You don’t really have to be interested in a club, the way the club might present itself can sell you into joining. Danny Iraheta, a junior in SAS says that the community guides him into joining. “The culture, the ethnicity and the things they have to offer are so important.”

With people’s ever-changing interests, there’s always a club you can find to suit you. If you happen to miss club rush this year, you can always find clubs on Instagram and be sure to join their meetings!
