Behavioral health therapist Bex Rebecca Montes explains how being a role model for youth brings her so much joy. “Being a behavioral health therapist working with teens is creating a space for them to express themselves and share their wisdom, she says. In therapy, each student I work with has shown a deep ability for self-reflection and a willingness to learn, offering incredible insights from which Ive learned a great deal. I also enjoy the fun and joy we experience together. Young people have such a great sense of humor! I cherish the role of being a supportive adult who walks alongside them during times of change and difficulty. Its incredibly rewarding to team up with young people in their healing process, providing tools and watching them transform, showing themselves that change is possible.

Youth Educator Rahki Varma says that she decided to work in the field of public health as a youth educator because of her experience growing us as the child of a doctor. “Growing up, I heard stories of patients seeking help with their health, but often struggled to make lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, changing their diet, or exercising regularly, she says. I realized that these decisions were influenced by factors beyond medical advice, such as peer pressure, family, the media, and access to resources. In college, I learned that public health addresses these factors and considers their impact on a persons health journey. This understanding led me to become a Youth Educator, where I help young people become their healthiest and happiest selves, integrating these holistic approaches into my work.

Youth educator Neeraj Wadhwa said he appreciates helping teens grow socially and interpersonally. Its rewarding to see them return with a more evolved outlook and mature mindset over time, growing into capable and productive individuals, he says.
